Result 2023: 12.500 visitors in our mine

The MNM General Assembly met on Friday, March 15th 2024 in the multipurpose room. Result: 12.500 persons in 2023 visited our tunnel. A big “Thank You” to the Ministry of the Economy (Direction Général Tourisme), to the City of Rumelange and to all of you.

Alain Kreutzer tells the story of life in a mine

The former main foreman, Alain Kreutzer, showed as contemporary witness from his own experience at the MNM-Conference many listeners how things went on in a tunnel. Almost all aspects were touched: from working with hand tools to the use of modern drills to the dangers to which the miners were exposed at times. Minister Eric Thill visited the MNM

Yesterday afternoon, the Minister of Culture and Minister delegate for Tourism, Eric Thill, visited the MNM to get an insight into the exhibition and the structure of the museum. The whole team of the MNM was present and was very happy about his visit.

MNM New years drink

The MNM Board of Directors invited the museum’s staff, guides and volunteers to a New Year’s drink. In addition to a good bite, everyone received a small gift as grateful recognition.

From Recklinghausen to Rumelange: the wheel loader type Eimco 912

A delegation of our technical service picked up a wheel loader type Eimco 912 in Recklinghausen’s training mine this week. This machine was there in the exhibition and will now be made fit again to be used in our museum. A big thank you for the warm welcome to the team of the Trainingsbergwerk in Recklinghausen and to the truck driver of the transport company Tauschlag Gelsenkirchen.

Claude Hermes “On the marks of limestone in Rumelange”

Under the slogan "On the marks of Limestone of Rumelange", the passionate researcher of the Minett region, Claude Hermes, introduced the participants of our MNM “Stammdësch” to the history and development of the lime industry of Rumelange. From the beginnings around 1807 to the closure of the Berens industrial plant around 1960, various aspects of this local industry were illuminated by photos, family trees, articles from the period and documents.

MNM “Stammdësch”: New conferences on the history of the iron ore industry

The MNM has launches a cycle of conferences on the history of the regional iron ore industry. Historians, eyewitnesses and other specialists from the iron ore mining come to speak to deepen the topic in a pleasant atmosphere. 2024: The MNM opens every Sunday

In 2024, our museum is open every Sunday in the off-season, in any weather, for young and old. The MNM presents the industrial history of an entire epoch (1870 – 1997) for almost two hours during a guided tour mine & train. You can also discover the culture of the miners up close in the original places where they worked hard, and let us tell you a number of interesting anecdotes from our guides.
