Located on the side of the Langegrund valley opposite to the museum, Hutberg mine was the last open pit mine in Rumelange. At its closure in 1978, it used the most modern mining methods of the time. The scars created by this very large undertaking are slowly healing as nature reasserts its rights. Several walking trails have been marked on the benches of the former mine, from where you can see nature gradually reclaiming the abandoned workings,
The most popular trail is “sentier pédestre Rumelange I”. You can find information about walking trails in and near Rumelange here: map.geoportail.lu
Rumelange town council also marked two further nature and one historical trail passing by the museum. More information here: brochure de la ville de Rumelange.
